I am a lover of ice cream, in all of its forms. I want to tell you, dear readers, about the very best ice cream flavors I’ve had… and where YOU can find them, too!
This list is completely and utterly subjective, based on nothing but my personal taste buds. I tend to enjoy more vanilla-based ice creams with tons of caramel/peanut butter/chocolate excitement mixed in… so don’t expect a lot of fruity flavors on this list (although those are amazing too).
These are the flavors where I ate a bite… then immediately gushed about how incredible it was. Some I discovered recently and others are lifelong favorites. Some you can buy at your nearest Wal-Mart, and others are from trendy shops & parlors. I’m no respecter of ice cream.
Alright, let’s do it!!
1. Salted, Malted, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough @ Salt & Straw
I had this at Downtown Disney in Anaheim, California and it was the stuff dreams are made of. Delightfully salty and MALTED, which is a really hard thing to find hand-dipped (versus, for instance, in a malted milkshake)! The salt wasn’t overpowering, either.
Where to Find It: store locator on their official website
But to save you the disappointment, there are mostly locations along the U.S. coasts for now. IE: Oregon, Seattle, Bay Area, San Diego, Miami, either of the Downtown Disneys, and LA.
2. Cheesecake with Brownies @ Mora Ice Cream
This cheesecake ice cream is so pure and so rich…and the brownie chunks inside (supposedly from a nearby bakery) are next-level too.
Mora is no ordinary ice cream shop. The love and care poured into each step of the process is evident in the end product. Their first shop opened at Bainbridge Island in 2006, and their assortment of flavors is astounding. A friend told me how delicious this place was when I told her I was moving to Seattle. She was so right!
I talk all about it in this article about Bainbridge Island!
There is no simple way to explain how we turn milk and sugar mixed with fruit, chocolate or nuts into a transcendent experience.
–Mora “About Us”
Where to find it: Nevada (2), South Carolina (Charleston), Washington (3), and Utah (Orem).
Learn about all of their incredible flavors on their official website.
3. Cake Batter @ Coldstone Creamery
This is likely a well-known flavor…and for good reason. It was invented by a Coldstone employee in 2003 and has since become their top-selling ice cream (source).
It’s rich and thick and delicious with a variety of mix-ins (graham crackers, strawberries, sprinkles, brownies).
Where to find it: They have locations all over the place, and a large presence internationally too. Check out their store locator on their official website to track it down today.
4. Half-Baked by Ben & Jerry’s
I have loved this flavor for at least a decade. And I know that because my husband and I have been married for 10 years but I remember loving it when we were dating. Not as much as I loved him, obviously.
It’s half vanilla ice cream + half chocolate… with cookie dough + brownie batter chunks throughout. Ben & Jerry’s has such a good chunk + ice cream ratio… worth every extra penny.
Where to find it: Check any large mart grocery store’s freezer section to find it! We could even find Ben & Jerry’s at our grocery store in Seoul, Korea (although not this flavor, sadly).
5. Natural Frozen Yogurt with Chocolate Sauce @ Yogorino
Fro-yo has gotten a bad rap for being the ditzy cousin of real and creamy ice cream. BUT FROZEN YOGURT CAN BE INDULGENT, TOO! We lived down the street from this frozen yogurt shop in Philadelphia, and it was this hidden gem that everyone loved. The texture and flavor of the yogurt is indescribable, and paired with chocolate (weird I know) or fruit it really was next level.
That shop has since closed down… but we speak of it regularly in our home. Truly.
Good news: there are tons of other Yogorino franchises open around the world for you to try!
Bad news: you may or may not live very close to one of them. We live extremely far. Haha
Our frozen yogurt is a top quality, light and flavoursome product with a distinct but delicate aroma.
Over the years our experts have continued working to study and improve the flavour and characteristics of our product. —Yogorino official website
6. Graham Canyon @ Brigham Young University Creamery
Maybe I’m biased, but my alma mater (BYU) has some fantastic ice cream. There are several different creameries but they all carry crowd-favorite Graham Canyon. The description on their website is “Graham cracker ice cream, graham cracker swirl, chocolate covered honeycomb.”
It’s really unique and delicious. It’s much different than S’more situations, and full of flavor.
Where to find it: The only place you can buy this ice cream is in Provo, Utah…but there are several different Creamery locations to choose from on campus! You can buy either hand-packed to-go containers (1/2 gallon or 3 gallons available) OR just have it scooped into a cup or cone.
7. Peanut Butter Party by Blue Bunny
This one came out of nowhere for me, as I don’t usually expect to be blown away by a carton of store-bought ice cream. But oh baby. This is peanut butter based ice cream (not vanilla) and it makes all the difference. If you like peanut butter anything, then you will love this.
Where to find it: Any grocery store that sells Blue Bunny flavors!
That’s it!
I hope you enjoyed hearing about these ice cream flavors that exceeded all of my expectations.
Most importantly, tell me in the comments some of YOUR favorite ice cream flavors! I would love to hear!
