6 Delightful Children’s Podcasts (That I Love Too!)

I am so impressed with the people that make children’s podcasts. It takes serious skill to produce something that will captivate, entertain, and educate young listeners. We have tried many children’s podcasts over the years– there’s a huge variety of topics, formats, and shows you can find out there!

Today I’m listing our family’s absolute favorites. These are the podcasts that my kids ask for regularly and actually listen to while they are on.

For reference, I would recommend these children’s podcasts for ages 3-8, although I am sure children that are a bit younger or older would listen in as well…I certainly do!

1. Reading Bug Adventures

Reading Bug Adventures Children's Podcast

First and foremost is the Reading Bug Adventures Podcast. I evangelize this podcast like crazy because it is the creme de la creme…the BEST of the best of children’s podcasts in my mind.

The “Reading Bug” goes on adventures and invites you to come along. There are a LOT of topics you can choose from, and my kids love them all: outer space, dinosaurs, ninjas, airplanes, safaris, Ancient Egypt, and so much more.

Learn more about the Reading Bug team and the podcast on their website– they own a small, independent bookstore in northern California and come up with the original scripts and stories for each adventure!

The episodes are quite long… ranging 45 minutes – 1.5 hours usually. These are ideal for long trips to the zoo, airport, etc…anywhere you are on the highway for a long time and don’t want to be managing entertainment and messing with your phone a lot! And definitely for road trips (our sanity saving road trip tips HERE).

I love that my kids are becoming familiar with new cultures and learning about history, animals, transportation, and familiar legends. My kids love the catchy original songs that are part of the adventures.

2. Circle Round

Circle Round Children's Podcast

Circle Round is certainly the most well-known podcast on this list, so chances are you’ve already heard of it. There’s a reason it’s so popular!

This show features folk tales from all over the world, and the production quality is fantastic. Why? The storytellers cast in each story are talented (and often famous) performers you may recognize from Broadway musicals, TV shows, and movies.

A few of our favorite episodes include:

The Wiser Adviser feat. Elaine Hendrix, Devyn McDowell, Mark Pellegrino

The King’s Face feat. Derrick Baskin and Brandon Uranowitz

Hungry Hippo feat. Scott Lawrence

These episodes run about 20 minutes each, which is great for running errands around town.

3. Sunbeam

Sunbeam Children's Podcast

This is a smaller, niche podcast compared to the others on this list. Sunbeam is a show designed for Bible-loving kids & adults. Megan & Gabe bring scripture stories to life and explain them in a way that makes sense for little listeners.

This year they are focusing on Old Testament stories like Noah’s Ark, Moses, & more. My boys enjoy the fun sound effects and learning more about the stories they’ve heard in Sunday school.

These episodes are very short– only 8 minutes long usually. We often play these in the car as we drive to school drop-off and pick-up for something quick & uplifting!

4. Story Time

Story Time Podcast stories are truly delightful. They are promoted as “children’s bedtime stories”, but are great for anytime. The narrator has an accent and tone that is so pleasant to listen to.

These stories are unique and sometimes on the quirkier side of things… in a good way!

Some of our favorite episodes lately:

135: Bunny Magic

140: The Midnight Princess

142: The Little Boy Who Wouldn’t Eat Cheesecake

The length of these stories range from 10-30 minutes.

5. Stories Podcast

I’ve updated to add this children’s podcast because Stories Podcast is one of my children’s favorites lately! I know that the title of the podcast isn’t particularly creative, but there’s no better words for it: a massive collection of stories recorded and ready for your ears to receive.

Admittedly you have to do a little bit of shuffling through to find the golden nugget episodes amongst some various other styles of shows (such as the Podchats, or straight read-throughs of chapter books designed for older children). But there are also a TON of great stories for younger children, including a lot of classic Beatrix Potter tales.

Our favorites include:

442. Smash and Grab at the Dollhouse

ALL of the Winnie the Pooh stories

6. ABC Story Sisters

I’m updating AGAIN to add another favorite podcast: ABC Story Sisters! Over the summer my kids got really into these classic stories retold by sisters Charlotte, Alexa, and Bristol (A, B, C…get it?).

There’s just something magical about kids listening to other kids. These girls do such a great job and we all get into the narratives, wondering what will happen next!

Each season features a classic story divided up into ten or so short episodes (about 8 minutes each). They do play all in a row nicely, if you just start the first one and let it go.

Don’t take my word for it…look at all those glowing 4.9 star reviews!

Our favorites include:

Season 4: Peter Pan

Season 1: The Wizard of Oz

Season 5: The Little Mermaid

That’s it for Children’s Podcasts!

and a big, warm thank you (& shout out!) to my beloved mom friends who originally recommended each of these shows to me. Guilt-free edutainment for my children is just something money can’t buy. 😉
